Claude Integration: Adding the NIC MAP Connector

Step-by-step guide for Claude Organization Owners and end users to connect the NIC MAP MCP connector.

The NIC MAP custom connector lets Claude call the NIC MAP system directly from inside your Claude account. Once it's enabled, anyone on your team can ask Claude questions in plain English and have it pull live NIC MAP senior-housing data into the answer — market analyses, competitive sets, occupancy and rent trends, sales comparables, construction pipeline, and more — without leaving the Claude chat.

How it works

The connector is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoint hosted by NIC MAP. Claude authenticates each user against your existing NIC MAP credentials over OAuth, so every request is authorized against that user's NIC MAP entitlements — no separate API keys, no shared service accounts.

What you'll need

  • One Claude administrator (Owner role) on your Claude organization, who will add the connector once for the whole company.

  • NIC MAP credentials for each end user who wants to use the connector — the same email and password used to sign in to nicmap.com.

  • Claude on web, desktop, or mobile — the connector follows the user wherever they're signed in. It also works inside Cowork and Claude Code, so the same NIC MAP data is available to non-developer agents and to developer workflows in the terminal.

Connector URL: https://api.nicmap.com/mcp — name it NIC MAP when you add it.

This guide is in two parts:

  • Part 1 · Admin setup — one-time, about 2 minutes. Done by a Claude administrator. Adds the NIC MAP connector at the organization level so it's visible to everyone in your Claude workspace.

  • Part 2 · User setup — per user, about 30 seconds. Each end user connects their own NIC MAP account once via OAuth. After that the connector is live in every chat.

Part 1 · One-time admin setup

These four steps add the connector at the organization level. Once they're done, every user in your Claude workspace will see NIC MAP in their Connectors list.

  1. Open your Claude account menu and click Settings. In the bottom-left corner of Claude, click your profile avatar to open the account menu, then click Settings.

  2. Switch to Organization settings. From the Settings page, click the Organization settings link in the left sidebar (it has a small "open in new tab" icon). You must be the Owner of the organization to see this option.

  3. Open the Connectors tab and choose Add › Custom › Web. In Organization settings, select Connectors from the left sidebar. Click Add in the top-right, hover Custom, then click Web.

  4. Name it "NIC MAP" and paste in the connector URL. In the Add custom connector dialog, enter the name and URL exactly as shown below, then click Add.

    Enter these values exactly:
    Name: NIC MAP
    URL: https://api.nicmap.com/mcp

That's it for admin setup. The NIC MAP connector is now visible to every user in your Claude organization. Send them Part 2 of this guide so they can connect their own NIC MAP account.

Part 2 · Per-user activation

Each user in your Claude organization runs through these three quick steps once. After that, the NIC MAP connector is available in every chat — on web, desktop, and mobile, and also inside Cowork and Claude Code.

  1. In Claude, open Settings › Connectors and click Connect on NIC MAP. Open Settings from your account menu and select Connectors. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click Connect next to NIC MAP (marked CUSTOM).

  2. Sign in with your NIC MAP credentials. Claude opens the NIC MAP login screen. Enter the email and password you use for nicmap.com, complete two-factor authentication, and you'll be redirected back to Claude. This is a standard OAuth flow — Claude never sees or stores your password.

  3. You're live — toggle NIC MAP on and start asking. Back in Claude, the connector appears in the + menu of the chat composer under Connectors. Toggle NIC MAP on for any chat where you want Claude to use NIC MAP data.

Try one of these prompts:

  • "Produce an analysis of the senior-housing market opportunity around 2105 Blue Oak Terrace."

  • "Pull the construction pipeline for the Atlanta CBSA and summarize inventory growth risk."

I don't see "NIC MAP" in my Connectors list

Your administrator hasn't completed Part 1 yet, or you're signed in to a different Claude organization. Confirm with your Claude Owner.

OAuth says "invalid credentials"

Use the same email and password you use for nicmap.com. If you've never set a password, request one via the Forgot password link on the NIC MAP login screen or email [email protected].

Claude doesn't seem to use NIC MAP data

Check that the NIC MAP toggle is turned on in the chat composer (see Step 3, Part 2). Also try a prompt that explicitly mentions senior-housing data or a specific property/CBSA.
